PRODUCT AND COMPANY IDENTIFICATION PRODUCT NAME: Antifreeze - Green PRODUCT CODE: 270300A PRODUCT FORMULATION NAME: Antifreeze - Green 24 HR. EMERGENCY TELEPHONE DISTRIBUTOR NUMBERS Avery Oil & Propane Inc. CHEMTREC (U.S.): (800) 424-9300 3700 Rives - Eaton Road CANUTEC (613) 996-6666 Rives Junction MI 49277 Product Stewardship: 517-569-3366 COMMENTS: To the best of our knowledge, this Material Safety Data Sheet conforms to the requirements of US OSHA 29 CFR 1910.1200, 91/155/EEC and Canadian Hazardous Products Act. 2. HAZARDS IDENTIFICATION EMERGENCY OVERVIEW IMMEDIATE CONCERNS: Eye and upper respiratory irritant. May cause nausea, vomiting, headache, drowsiness, blurred vision, convulsions, coma or death if ingested or inhaled. Prolonged or repeated skin contact may cause dermatitis or skin sensitization. POTENTIAL HEALTH EFFECTS EYES: Liquid, vapors or mist may cause discomfort in the eye with persstent conjunctivitis, seen as slight excess redness or conjunctiva. Serious corneal injury is not anticipated. SKIN: No significant effects beyond minor irritation are expected. INGESTION: Following ingestion, a bitter taste my be noted. May cause abdominal discomfort or pain, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, drowsiness, malaise, blurring of vision, irritability, back pain, decrease in urine output, kidney failure, and CNS effects including irregular eye movements, convulsions and coma. Cardiac failure and pulmonary edema my develop. Severe kidney damage which may be fatal may follow the swallowing of ethylene glycol. A few reports have been published describing the development of weakness of the facial muscles, diminishing hearing, and difficulty with swallowing, during the late stages of severe poisoning. INHALATION: May cause irritation of te nose and throat with headache, particularly from mists. High vapor concentrations caused, for example, by heating the material in an enclosed and poorly ventilated workplace, may produce nausea, vomiting, headache, dizziness and irregular eye movements. SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF OVEREXPOSURE CHRONIC EFFECTS: Prolonged or repeated inhalation exposure may produce signs of CNS involvement, particularly dizziness and jerking eye movements. Prolonged or repeated skin contact may cause skin sensitization and an associated dermatitis in some individuals. Ethylene glycol has been found to cause birth defects in laboratory animals. The significance of this finding to humans has not been determined. MEDICAL CONDITIONS AGGRAVATED: A knowledge of the available toxicology information and of the A AAAAn nnnnt tttti iiiif ffffr rrrre eeeee eeeez zzzze eeee - ----G GGGGr rrrre eeeee eeeen nnnn Page 2 of 6 physical and chemical properties of the material suggests that overexposure is unlikely to aggravate existing medical conditions. FIRST AID MEASURES EYES: Immediately flush eyes with plenty of water for 15 minutes. If irritation persists, seek medical attention. SKIN: Remove contaminated clothing, wash contaminated area thoroughly with soap and water. If redness or irritation occurs, seek medical attention. INGESTION: Seek immediate medical attention. Immediately call local poison control center or go to an emergency department. Never give anything by mouth to or induce vomiting in an unconscious or drowsy person. INHALATION: Remove victim from area of exposure. If unconscious, give oxygen. Give artificial respiration if not breathing. Get immediate medical attention. 5. FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES FLASHPOINT AND METHOD: (220°F) Penskey-Marten CC FLAMMABLE LIMITS: 3.2% to 15.3% AUTOIGNITION TEMPERATURE: Not Determined FLAMMABLE CLASS: Treat as an OSHA Class IIIB Combustible Liquid EXTINGUISHING MEDIA: Foam, Dry Chemical, Carbon Dioxide, Water Fog FIRE FIGHTING PROCEDURES: Cool exposed equipment with water spray until well after fire is out. Self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) and structural firefighter's protective clothing will provide limited protection. 6. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES SMALL SPILL: Wear appropriate protective clothing an equipment. Collect with absorbent material and place in appropriate, labeled container for disposal or, if permitted, flush spill area with water. LARGE SPILL: Contain material as described above and call the local fire or police department for immediate emergency assistance. 7. HANDLING AND STORAGEHANDLING: Do not get in eyes, on skin or on clothing. Do not breathe vapors, mist, fume or dust. Do A AAAAn nnnnt tttti iiiif ffffr rrrre eeeee eeeez zzzze eeee - ----G GGGGr rrrre eeeee eeeen nnnn Page 3 of 6 not swallow, may be aspirated into lungs. Wear protective equipment and/or garments if exposure conditions warrant. Wash thoroughly after handling. Launder contaminated clothing before reuse. Use only with adequate ventilation. STORAGE: Store unopened containers under cool, dry and ventilated conditions. Keep away from heat, sparks and flame. STORAGE TEMPERATURE: SHOULD BE STORED IN A COOL DRY PLACE. STORAGE PRESSURE: AMBIENT SHELF LIFE: THE SHELF LIFE OF THIS PODUCT IS UNDETERMINED, BUT MAY BECOME SUSPECT ONE YEAR FROM THE DATE OF PURCHASE. 8. OSHA: Not listed by OSHA TERATOGENIC EFFECTS: Ethylene glycol has been shown to produce dose-related teratogenic effects in rats and mice when given by gavage or in drinking water at high concentrations or doses. Also, in a preliminary study to assess the effects of exposure of pregnant rats and mice to aerosols at concentrations 150, 1,000 and 2,500 mg/m3 for 6 hours a day throughout the period of organogenesis, A AAAAn nnnnt tttti iiiif ffffr rrrre eeeee eeeez zzzze eeee - ----G GGGGr rrrre eeeee eeeen nnnn Page 5 of 6 teratogenic effects were produced at the highest concentrations, but only in mice. The conditions of these latter experiments did not allow a conclusion as to whether the developmental toxicity was mediated by inhalation of aerosol, percutaneous absorption of ethylene glycol from contaminated skin, or swallowing of ethylene glycol as a result of grooming the wetted coat. 12.
